A Conservatives view on where we've been, where we are, and where we're going.

Now that the election process is complete, I have had some time to allow the results to sink in.  While we may disagree on the benefits of the outcome, I'm sure we can all agree that the end of the constant barrage of political advertising is a change for the better.

However, Change is the topic that I am having the most difficulty with.  Please understand that it is not change itself that I take issue with as change often implies progress, evolution, and a desire to overcome obstacles.  Change has been the slogan of this Presidential election.  America has spoken and there is no doubt that change is the driving force of the result.  My questions are, a change to what and to what end?  Some of the major changes on that list include Iraq, Afghanistan, the War on Terror in general, our economic structure including our tax code and business ethics, our health care system and, of course, foreign relations.  My impressions on the proposals to improve these issues point squarely in the direction of a Socialistic agenda.  Am I wrong in this conclusion?  If so, how?

I have seen the video showing crowds of jubelant Obama supporters waving the hammer and sickle flag of communism.  I have seen the "My President is Black" t-shirts and I keep asking myself the same questions.  Is this progress?  Is this evolution?

I will concede that this is certainly change.  However, I will continue to ask, a change to what? and to what end?

Something Karl Rove said crystallized it for me.  We've elected a Poet Laureate more than we have a President.  Maybe that will work out, maybe it won't, but all we've really heard is well-controlled, well-disciplined heraldic poetry.

I'll now await the flame-throwers who will accuse me of all sorts of mental defects for mentioning a certain man's name.

Since Karl Rove is such a reliable source of information . . .

(You know I had to.)

Ours is a complicated relationship.

I would have to agree.  Obama's words are eloquenst and inspiring.  However, history is repleat with examples of eloquent and inspiring leaders that are now infamous for their actions.

Inscrutable, even.

"Hitler made good speeches too"

You know, I am quite positive there way more "eloquent" past head of states that ended up doing a lot of good for their nations than there are infamous ones.

But history is made by the colossal men, blunderers or movers.  Not the "good" ones.  Ford was a "Good" president.  But what do you remember him for?

to the Article: America did not want "change".  That is a nice sound bite, but hardly real.  America wants its wants when it wants them.  The economy is having a rough time, and they want something done.  period.  There is no thought as to throwing water or kerosene on the fire, just throw something.

As I said, they did the same thing in 76.  I dont think the results are going to be any better this time.

I like how you like to look at the Silver lining of things, but I think we need to get off the "we won 3 out of 5" bandwagon and start looking for consistancy rather than "he has more goods than bads".
